Diagnose Prediabetes - The Warning
Type 2 diabetes does not just attack a person all of a sudden, it gradually sets in.
Diabetes actually starts with prediabetes. People can detect prediabetes with the help of their doctor. More importantly, prediabetics can fight back.
A recent story in USA Today discusses how one man fought off diabetes. Ed Chandler had always been athletic, but some of his food choices were contributing to a stealthy approach of diabetes.
The article does not mention whether Chandler is taking medication. However, many doctors will start prediabetic patients on the anti-diabetes drug metformin. It helps the body be less insulin resistant.
People who catch diabetes in the early stage can often stop it in its tracks. If you live with diabetes, other family members may be susceptible to it too. Let them know about prediabetes and encourage them to ask their doctors to test for it. They would certainly prefer that their doctors diagnose prediabetes now, instead of diabetes in the future.
