All the Diabetes Talk in Washington DC This Week

The American Diabetes Association hosted it’s annual scientific sessions this week in Washington DC. This is where the best minds in diabetes get together and present findings from their study. If you are very excited about digging into studies, I would encourage you to go to Dr. Richard Kahn’s blog on the event. Dr. Kahn is the scientific guru that orchestrated significant portions of the conference.

Some of the highlights from the sessions included:

  • Evidence that diabetics that work hard to lower A1C readings do not have cognitive problems. Some research suggested the possible side effect.
  • Pre-diabetes often leads to diabetes and heart disease. (No big surprise.)
  • Women who exercise during pregnancy experience lower rates of gestational diabetes.
  • Kids who skip breakfast tend to be more overweight than those who do not.
  • The A1C test may be displaced by a new test that many believe to be more precise.
  • The latest on good and bad cholesterol
  • The many meetings dealing with depression in diabetics
  • You can access abstracts and other material from the scientific sessions by clicking here.
